Bankhead, a female-fronted quartet, play a unique brand of punk-inspired pop songs (or pop-inspired punk songs) with some funk, ska and even jazz influences thrown in for good measure. The resulting sound has been described as "original...with lyrics that make you give it a second listen."(The Splatter Effect). The band has been a regular of the NYC scene since 1994, building up a steady following at clubs like Mercury Lounge, Nightingale's and Spiral, and their 7-inch single, "Bonehead" b/w "Rant n' Rave" was enthusiastically received by both the press and college radio. Song topics range from body piercing ("Mildred pierced her nose so she could feel a pain in a place besides her heart"), to annoyingly arrogant people ("you're such a bonehead for thinking you can just change the world with one wave of your hand.") The band recorded their latest 3-song demo tape this past summer in Ireland. |
